Alan Trevino: Bio

Alan was born in Littlefield and raised in Big Spring, Texas and graduated from Big Spring High School in 1983. He attended Howard College in Big Spring for 1 year before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin. Alan was a walk-on for the University of Texas football team in 1985. 

In 1987, Alan went to work for the Travis County Sheriff’s Department as a corrections officer. 

In 1988, Alan graduated as a Trooper from recruit training school A-88, the 100th training academy of the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was assigned to the Highway Patrol service and his first duty station was in Lufkin but transferred to Austin Highway Patrol in 1989. In 1995, Alan was promoted to the Governor’s Protection Detail as a Staff Sergeant and later became the Assistant Detail Leader and Detail Leader under Governor’s Bush and Perry. Alan was assigned the responsibility to provide the security plan for the DPS response to Governor Bush announcing his run for President. This required him to assign manpower, complete equipment logistics, analyze costs, and coordinate specialized training and instruction for all team members. Alan is a certified firearm, pursuit driving and classroom instructor. Alan honorably retired after 20 years of service with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and holds a Master Peace Officer License. 

Mr. Trevino is the Owner/President and CEO of Sentry Security and Investigations, LP and has been licensed to provide guard services, investigations, consulting, and personal protection for the past 22 years. He has also served as a personal protection officer to many politicians, CEO’s, athletes and celebrities. Mr. Trevino served as the State Board President for ASSIST, an organization of owners and managers of security companies. He is a former member of the Texas Association of Licensed Investigators. In June of 2018, Alan was appointed by Governor Abbott to the Texas Private Security Board where he served as Vice Chairman and later served on the Private Security Advisory Committee for DPS until January 2023. 

Additionally, Governor Abbott appointed Mr. Trevino to the Texas School Safety Center Board of Directors in November 2019. Mr. Trevino continues to serve on the Texas School Safety Center Board. Alan also served on the Board of Directors for 100 Club of Central Texas from December 2019 to December 2023 and has been elected to serve on the board of his Property Owners Association for four, one-year terms.

Mr. Trevino was sworn in as Chief Deputy of the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office on August 29, 2022 and continues to service in that capacity.

Alan has been married to his wife Kathy for 30 years and they have lived in Burnet County for over 5 and a half years. They have 2 grown children, Jason (wife Krystal, Bertram) and Kortney (Morrisville, North Carolina) and 1 granddaughter, Ellie (Bertram).

Alan is an active member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Burnet and a proud financial supporter of many charities to include the Hill Country Humane Society, the Burnet County Children’s Advocacy Center, the 100 Club of Central Texas and Hill Country 100 Club, Project 316, YMCA of the Highland Lakes, and the Travis County Livestock Show and Rodeo.
